Lyallpur General Store supplies readymade garments and woollens, wholesale, from Haridwar. Retail chains, institutional buyers and independent shops across six states stock their shelves from our floor.
What we do
We hold both halves of the calendar. The everyday readymade range moves through the year; the woollen line comes in from August so that our buyers are stocked before the first cold week. Most suppliers do one or the other well. Carrying both is the reason our buyers consolidate their orders with us.
How we work
Wholesale is a business of repeat orders, and repeat orders are a business of being predictable. We plan the winter line months ahead, we hold stock for buyers who tell us their season plan early, and we don't take on more than we can deliver on time.
Who runs it
The business is run by Sanjeev Narang, with Dhruv Narang handling buyer relationships and new accounts.
Between them they take every call on this page personally — neither hands a buyer off to somebody else.
The name
Lyallpur.
Lyallpur was laid out in 1892 around a clock tower, with eight bazaars running out from it like spokes. It became the cloth capital of the subcontinent. After 1947 it was renamed Faisalabad, and the families who had traded there scattered east across the new border — carrying, in most cases, nothing but the trade itself.
The trade came east with the people who knew it, and it did not stop. Every season since, someone has had to judge how much wool to hold and when to hold it, which sizes will move and which will sit. That is the work. It has not changed a great deal in eighty years, and it is what this house does.
